What liquid products can and cannot do
A liquid can contact soft deposits inside a trap or nearby waste pipe, but it cannot repair a broken pipe, remove tree roots or reliably clear a solid object. Standing water may dilute some products or prevent them reaching the obstruction in the intended concentration.
- Check whether the product is caustic, acidic, oxidising or biological
- Confirm the named fixture and pipe materials
- Check whether standing water is permitted
- Look for a measured dose rather than an instruction to use the whole container
Buying criteria
Compare the stated blockage type, contact time, protective-equipment instructions, child-resistant packaging and disposal guidance. Do not assume two products with similar packaging can be combined or used one after another.
