Why viscosity matters

The thicker carrier can change how a product moves through water and coats deposits. Performance still depends on the active ingredients, concentration, dose and the nature of the blockage. A gel label should identify both the intended fixture and excluded materials.

  • Standing-water instructions
  • Maximum contact time
  • Safe pipe and seal materials
  • Whether flushing requires hot or cold water

Compare the complete treatment

A low purchase price is not good value if the bottle provides one uncontrolled dose or the product is unsuitable for the likely obstruction. Compare treatments per pack, storage instructions and the process required after use.

  • Measured treatments per container
  • Hair and soap versus grease positioning
  • Packaging that controls splashing
  • Clear emergency and first-aid information

A safer decision process

  1. 1

    Rule out a shared-line problem

  2. 2

    Remove only safely reachable debris

  3. 3

Read the label and prepare the area

  4. 4

    Measure and pour without splashing

  5. 5

Stop after the permitted treatment rather than combining products

Important safety point

Thick consistency does not make a corrosive product safer. Protect skin and eyes exactly as directed and never use a plunger after adding a chemical unless the label says it is safe.
